The Round-Up – August 15th, 2019

Another week, another Round Up.

I’m eagerly anticipating Borderlands 3, but in the meantime I’ve been playing a ton of games on EA AccessFFXIV has kinda lost its luster.  I’m finished with the current Shadowbringers content, so now I’ll be waiting until the next patch comes out.  There’s so much to look forward to in the coming months though, so who cares!

EA Access = Worth It

EA Access is a service that allows you to download as many games as you want from their library (not many but still a nice selection), gain early access to upcoming titles and trials for newly released ones that you can play for up to ten hours before you’re cut off.  As soon as it was made available on PS4, I opted in for the $4.99 a month, but you can pay $29.99 for the year!  I know EA gets flak for ripping people off, but the selection of games they have is stellar.  I’ve been playing Battlefield V, Dragon Age Inquisition, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Sims 4, and I ran out of time in my 10 hour trial of Anthem. Overall, $5 isn’t so bad to play as many games as you want.  I’d definitely check it out if you’re on the fence.

Anthem’s Cataclysm Event Continues To Please

I am just as aware as everyone else that Anthem had a rocky start.  The game clearly needed more development time, but it was shipped out to lukewarm reception due to the fact that it was nearly unplayable.  I waited and waited.  Finally, I decided to give it a go on EA Access and ended up finding the game for $15 at a pawn shop and thought what the hell, I’ve enjoyed my trial with it, so I bought it.  I haven’t had any issues and I’m really enjoying the new Cataclysm event, fun times.  It’s a set of missions that is currently in its second week.  The Cataclysm culminates in a boss battle that requires some decent coordination.  You can continue to run it over and over, perfecting your run and gaining access to better gear, emotes, and skins for your Javelin.  The gear I had received from the Cataclysm was so good, by the time I had reached the end of the Main Campaign, I was absolutely destroying enemies.  I haven’t tried it on a higher difficulty yet, but we’re making progress.  I really hope this is the start of a brighter future for the game, because I would love to see it grow and gain a decent following.  It’s worthy.

Apex Legend’s Gets Limited Time Solo Mode

I was always turned off by Apex Legend’s 3 player only game mode.  Unless I was playing with my friends, having to join up with randoms seemed like a nightmare… and it was.  The first game I got into, this kid was screaming at me literally the whole time, telling me to resurrect him, follow him, keep up… it was awful.  Developer Respawn has been kind enough to add a limited time Solo Mode (please make it permanent) that is fantastic.  The solo mode is much more my style.  It’s so much fun that I bought the Battle Pass.  It’s nice being able to shoot at enemies and not have them build a seven floor house in half a second.  If we’re lucky, Apex will get a bunch of different modes as opposed to just the one.

Grandia HD Collection Releases Tomorrow

I adore the first Grandia.  It’s one of my favorite PS1 games.  Grandia 2 however, I never really got into.  I played it on Dreamcast when it first launched but I didn’t get very far.  I was too busy playing Soul Caliber & Jet Grind Radio I suppose.  With the Nintendo Switch release of the Grandia HD Collection, you’ll be able to get that RPG goodness on the go.  It’ll cost you $40, but in my eyes, I’d pay $40 for the first one by itself.

Reserve Your Name & Character For WOW Classic

If you’ve been living under a rock, World of Warcraft Classic is a re-release of the classic Vanilla version, where the level cap was 60, and it too you half your actual life to reach that level cap.  If you have an active World of Warcraft subscription, you can log into WOW Classic right now and reserve your character on the servers that will be available.  The classic experience doesn’t launch until August 26th, but at least you can look at the shitty character models and be prepared for the grind to begin.  I’m excited because I could never really get into Vanilla WOW, and didn’t get into the MMO until Burning Crusade.  Now is my chance to properly relive the supposed “glory days”.

A new trailer for Borderlands 3 was released yesterday.  I’ll leave you with that.  Enjoy.

That’s it for The Round Up, until next time! – NVJ
