The amount of coverage on Smash Bros. Ultimate was excruciating. We get it, it’s a “new” game, stop trying to justify it to us. It was obnoxious. It was unnecessary. I love Smash, but holy Jesus we did not need to see that much coverage on little touches they’ve added to the game. They could have used that time to show off some new games coming out. I felt like I was watching an infomercial “BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!”
Other than Smash on Switch, there were some other cool announcements. Paladins, Fallout Shelter and Fortnite are available for download on the Nintendo eShop right now. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will get some new DLC and we’re getting the highly coveted cooking game Overcooked 2!
The thing that stood out most for me during the presentation was having the chance to buy the Pokeball controller so I can get Mew in Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. We still don’t have any concrete information on the next actual instalment of Pokemon on Switch, but this will fill that void just fine.
I’m disappointed that we still haven’t heard anything on a release for the Seiken Densetsu Collection, but I’m holding onto a sliver of hope that we will one day.
Anyways, here are some of the things I enjoyed from the Nintendo E3 Direct.
MORE SMASH! I’ll admit it’s very cool that all the characters from the franchise are coming to the Nintendo Switch version. It’s also great that Ridley is finally making its debut. Ridley looks fun to play and the trailer above was really badass. I’ll definitely be picking this up when it launches on December 7th, 2018.
YES. Mario Party is always a hit in this family. The mini-games look diverse and interesting. Love me some Mario Party. We don’t have to wait much longer either. Super Mario Party launches on Nintendo Switch October 5th, 2018.
Hollow Knight looks rad. Kinda reminds me of Castle Crashers. It comes with all the DLC you could get from the PC version, plus the newest DLC will be free when it arrives later this year. Oh, and it’s available now for $17!
I’ve never been big on the Fire Emblem series, but this game just might be the one that pulls me in. The gameplay looks engrossing and the graphics gorgeous. It sucks that we’ll have to wait until 2019 to get our hands on it.
So that’s it for the Big 3! Who do you think performed the best? I mean, any new games on the horizon is always a good thing, but who excited you the most with their presentation?
There are still three days of coverage to go, so I’ll be watching with a close eye. Plenty of new games could be announced. The hype continues. – NVJ
