Quick update: I’ve had an epiphany.
This past week, my family & I have been in the Cayman Islands visiting our momma (we’re here till Sunday). My brother was kind enough to lend me his PS Vita to play while on the plane and now………. I really don’t want to give it back. I’m a huge fan of the PSOne Classics and I forgot how many I owned on PS3. I was beyond pissed when I realized that I couldn’t transfer them to the PS4. It was literally one of the things I looked forward to every Tuesday on my PS3. I was always wondering what new classics would be released. I know we have the PS2 Classics on PS4, but it’s not enough damn it. It’s just..not…enough. I yearn for these retro games. I WANT THEM ALL. Needless to say, after this week……. I really need to get a Vita for myself.
The game in question that I’ve been playing (and has struck a chord with my PSOne Classic veins) on the Vita all week is Final Fantasy V. I own it on Super Famicom, but I don’t have a very good understanding of Japanese, so it made my play through on the Famicom just a tad bit difficult. I think the farthest I made it was just past the Ship Graveyard. Now, in my current play through, I’m a level 19 Red Mage (of course). My group consists of: Reina, who is a Summoner/White Mage, Galuf is a Knight/Monk, and Faris is a Ninja/Time Mage (love that haste). We’re currently trying to get the last crystal aboard the airship. It’s really great and I love all the references in this one that have showed up in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood, which I now actually understand. It also makes me crave a Necromancer class for FFXIV (summoning an army of the dead in a online Final Fantasy game would be badass). I’ll definitely be playing this one right through to the end.
What’s fantastic about the Vita is I can take all these games on the go. I know this is old news, but it’s literally life changing for me! Why I haven’t thought of getting one up until now is crazy. In its current state, there’s no way to play any PSOne Classics on PS4, unless you pay $30 for the remastered Final Fantasy IX (why pay $10 when you can pay $30?) or the cheaper (not quite cheaper) Final Fantasy VII. It always upset me that when I made the transition to PS4, none of my PSOne purchases made the journey. At least now my eyes have been opened to the greatness that is……. THE VITA. I know a lot of people call it a “dead” system (in Japan it’s still going strong) but I absolutely need one. Just thinking about all the the games I did buy……. which is quite a few, gets me giddy. The list includes: Klonoa, Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia, Resident Evil 2, Breath of Fire IV, Alundra, Tomba, Xenogears, Medievil and it goes on and on and on. My next purchases will definitely be Megaman Legends 1 & 2. There’s even the Lunar Silver Star Story remaster that was on PSP that I’d love to pick up. I’m definitely going to go on a ludicrous shopping spree. My mind is racing with all the games I want.
First things first though………. I gotta get myself a Vita. – NVJ
