I’ll be the first to admit that I loved Man of Steel & Batman V Superman. I know there are a ton of people out there that would disagree with me, but that’s like, your opinion man. I’ve been a fan of all of Snyder’s films. I didn’t really agree with all the slow motion in his earlier works, but that’s a minor nitpick. When it was announced that Zack would be directing the Justice League movie, people were up in arms. The comment sections were abuzz with people writing off the film before they had even seen it. I’m aware that this is a pretty common thing these days, which I think is ridiculous and deserves its own article, but not today. Today I’m talking about the tragedy that has come to Zack & his family and how the internet is reacting to it.
His 20 year old daughter Autumn committed suicide back in March. As the father of two, I can’t imagine the heartbreak the family is feeling right now. Losing anyone is awful, but having to bury your own child is something I never want to experience. Zack and his wife Deborah have stepped down from their duties on Justice League and handed them over to Joss Whedon. They tried to immerse themselves in their work but the pain was too much to bear. We’re all aware Joss is going to be directing the upcoming Batgirl movie, and he directed a little movie you might’ve heard of, The Avengers. Joss will surely see Zack’s vision for Justice League to fruition. My concerns aren’t with that. What concerns me with this announcement, is the people that think his exit because of his daughters suicide is a positive thing. It’s disgusting. I know there are lots of you that don’t think like this, but I’m surprised with how many people are happy with the news.
If you don’t like his directing style that’s fine, completely understandable. If you think his daughter committing suicide, ultimately leading to him stepping down as director is a great thing, that’s despicable. I get it’s the internet, and you can say whatever you want, with little to no consequence. Try to be an adult in this situation. Don’t be that person, at least try to be sensitive. If not, you’re an asshole, no matter how you look at it or try to justify it.
My condolences go out to Zack and his family in this time of grieving, I wish them all the best. – NVJ
