Destiny 2/Age of Triumph HYPE

This week was a bit crazy video game wise for me.  I’ve been playing the final Dark Souls 3 DLC, Final Fantasy 15’s Episode Gladiolus and an update to Chapter 13.  Final Fantasy 14 had a new update which launched the final main scenario quests for Heavensward, prepping everyone for the June 20th release of their next expansion Stormblood.  Salt & Sanctuary launched for PS Vita (if you haven’t played this gem go out and get it now).  Next week we’ve got the anticipated release of Persona 5!  Even with all this great stuff to play, you want to know what the best part of my week was?……  Well, I’m glad you asked.  My gaming buddies and I joined forces after a 2 month hiatus to run Destiny’s updated 390 light level Crota’s End raid and Bungie released the first trailer for Destiny 2.  Let’s just say the hype within our core raiding group is extremely high.  My addiction for Destiny is back, and it’s fierce.

It’s been a couple of months since we stopped running Aksis, so you’d think the group would have been a bit of a mess, but no way, we pulled it together.  It was nice being able to go through the raid and not cheese it.  Typically we would send our one hunter in and he would solo the first part, but with the increased light level, it would be damn near impossible (I’m not going to say impossible because I’m sure there’s some amazing player out there that will do it).  Running through the dark and fighting the Hive as they attack from all sides was a rush just like the first time I experienced it.  There is one particular change to the bridge part that was really cool.  After you get everyone across, 6 swords spawn and you get to just unleash total hell on the Knights that come out to kill you, and it’s just as badass as it sounds.  The loot drops were also generous.  I managed to get a light level 400 Word of Crota and Fang of Ir Yut in the same drop (SCORE).  The difficulty of the raid was manageable and we were able to clear it in a couple of hours.  It was a nice change from Aksis, and everyone wasn’t completely drained afterwards.  Even though it was essentially the same raid with a couple of changes and challenges sprinkled throughout, it was a ton of fun playing it again with my friends.  I honestly can’t wait till next Tuesday when Vault of Glass is the next featured raid.  Everything old is new again, and it will definitely hold my attention for awhile (well at least until I can get all that sweet, sweet loot).

Regarding the Destiny 2 trailer.  I don’t know about you, but I was getting some serious Borderlands vibes, and I dug it.  Cayde has always been a smart ass, but it was cranked up to 11 in the trailer.  If Bungie can keep this kind of humour throughout, it will definitely add to the game.  It’s a nice change of pace, considering the city has been blown up, and it’s not taking itself too seriously.  If they can keep the base game as it is now, but add to it (please don’t totally change it) Destiny 2 should be an absolute blast to play, no complaints.  Updated graphics.  I can’t wait to see what kind of crazy raids they come up with.  All the new weapons and gear.  It’s killing me.  At least there will be an open beta this summer (you can get into the beta even earlier if you pre-order).

So yeah, Destiny is back in my life.  I’ve always had an on again, off again relationship, but it feels great to be back.  I can’t wait to see what Destiny 2 has in store for us…..  Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! – NVJ
